A couple of snaps of Kempinski’s fast-developing property in Accra. Though the original late 2012 opening date slid – first to a non-specific ’2013′, now narrowed down to April – work is still very much underway. There is no sign of it doing a Hilton.
Note the horses on the old wall. The site used to be a racecourse, and you can just make out the end of ‘Turf Club’ in the bottom left of the picture. Property developer Cascade has pledged to build a new course in Ashaley Botwe – which is quite some way out of the city centre, just east of Madina – as part of the project.
That first picture is the hotel’s western flank, seen from Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue. Below is the northern flank from the same street.
Based on visuals on the Kempinski Gold Coast City site, it looks as it the entrance will be on the south side, just off GAN Avenue.
Other KGCC trivia? A third of the money came from an African Development Bank loan, the key objectives of which are “to support government efforts to build a business-enabling environment, promote tourism, and boost GDP.”
